that's pretty cool
i'm guessing it has something to do with infared signals or something like that. its wavelength is similar to that of a microwave (wave) and therefore acts in a similar manner on the popcorn.
or maybe the waves mutated the kernels so much that they popped

Snopes.com determined this to be a hoax. Apparently these were advertisements for a blue tooth company. The other hoaxes contained cooking eggs with cell phones.
I thought they must all be pimps, having lots of phones at hand.
